Since there seems to be confusion among the public with the difference between the debt and liability:
When we transferred ownership of the newspaper, no debt was passed on — there were no loans or borrowed money to repay. What was transferred was the liability to existing subscribers who had already paid in advance, per the signed agreement. This liability means the new owners are responsible for either delivering the newspapers or issuing refunds. In other words, while there was no debt to assume, there was a clear obligation to honor the commitments made to subscribers.
These emails show our discussion about refunds when money was still being offered for the paper, and refunds were going to be split.
These emails also show the documents that were shared with Daniel Duzan and Niki Leinberger, including the Refunds List, Employee Roles, Subscriber Lists and Renewal Dates, and Advertiser Information.
